Portuguese Allmicroalgae to produce organic certified Chlorella vulgaris

Portuguese microalgae producer, Allmicroalgae Natural Products S.A., has gained EU organic certification for their ALLMA Chlorella vulgaris microalgae. Received on 9th March 2018, this certification elevates Allmicroalgae’s offering to customers, being one of the very few European manufacturers producing organic certified Chlorella biomass.

 

Allmicroalgae’s organic certified Chlorella meets with rising consumer demand for organic, plant-based ingredients of good origin. In Europe, the market for organic foods continues to expand – Euromonitor International valued the European Organic Food & Beverages market at €13,823.3M in 2017, with a YOY increase of 6.6% on 2016. Plant-based diets are set to gain more traction in Europe, with Vegan product claims projected to grow steadily in Denmark (27%), Sweden (19%), France (11%) and Germany (8%) between 2018 – 2021 (Source: Euromonitor International).

The company recently introduced fermentation technology in the Chlorella vulgaris production process, to complement their existing photobioreactor capacity. Fermentation production was adopted to increase volume capacity and speed of cultivation, and will be crucial to the production of omega-3 DHA/EPA strains for example, of which testing and production are also in their pipeline.
